seismic enclosure

Emcor offers electronic enclosures capable of withstanding the seismic stress of earthquakes. These enclosures have been tested and qualified to the rigid requirements of Telcordia GR-63-CORE, Zone 4 Criteria, meaning, they withstood tests for the harshest of seismic activity. Please contact Emcor for more information on seismic enclosures.

Seismic Vertical Frame Styles and Standard Sizes
The Light Duty System utilizes Emcor's standard 10 Series 14 and 16 gauge frame construction and side panels of a modified 16 gauge heavy duty design. Each frame requires two (2) 1/4" (6.4) thick tie down brackets, one mounted front and one rear. The qualified assembly consisted of the frame, two (2) side panels, four (4) equipment shelves and a front door. This design is qualified to handle a load distribution of 400 pounds at a designated center of gravity.

Light Duty Specifications

 2 Panel Widths:  19-1/16" (484.2)
   24-1/16" (611.2)
 3 Depths:  26-5/16" (668.3)
   31-9/16" (801.7)
   36-7/8" (936.6)
9 Vertical Opening
Heights (Range):
 26-1/4" (666.8)
to 78-3/4" (2000.3)

The Medium Duty System also utilizes the same frame as the light duty system with additional back-up welds and frame gussets. Each frame requires two (2) 1/4" (6.4) tie down brackets. This test assembly was equipped the same as the light duty unit except for the front being open without a door. This design qualified at a 600 pound load distribution level at a specific center of gravity. For more information, please see the latest seismic qualification report (1.3 MB, PDF).

The Heavy Duty System utilizes Emcor's Military/Tempest Style 12 and 16 gauge frame construction. Side panels are of a modified 16 gauge design. Each frame requires two (2) 1/4" (6.4) thick tie down brackets, one mounted front and one rear. Test assembly consisted of the frame, which has a solid non-removable top and bottom panel area, two side panels, a rear closure panel, eight equipment shelves and a custom flush lift-off front door with a 3 point T-handle latch system. This design has been qualified to handle a load distribution of 800 pounds at a specific center of gravity.
